Requirements for Marriage License:
- If at least one of the applicants getting married is a resident of Georgia, a marriage license can be issued at a probate court in any county.
- If neither person is a resident of Georgia, the license must be issued in the county where the ceremony is taking place.
- You must obtain a marriage license from the state you want to get married in. A marriage license cannot cross state lines. There is no exception to this law in any state.
- Valid State issued ID - The Identification you bring MUST be current. Such as a Georgia Driver's License or Georgia State ID. It must contain full name and date of birth.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Final Divorce Decree - You MUST bring a copy of your most recent Divorce Decree, regardless of how much time has passed since your divorce was final.
- The copy must have Judge's signature and date he signed dissolving the last marriage
- OR If your Previous Spouse is deceased, you MUST bring a copy of the Death Certificate.
- Cost of license is $66.00 without counseling or $26.00 with Certification of Premarital Counseling.
- Licenses are issued Monday through Friday from 8:15 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. You must be present before 4:15 p.m. to complete paperwork.
- The Cashier closes at 4:30 p.m. All payments must be made by that time.
- You will be asked to pickup your marriage certificate from our office.
Please note:
- A marriage license does not have an expiration date, and blood tests are no longer required in the State of Georgia.
- Weddings are no longer being performed at the Floyd County Courthouse.
