Mission:
- Prepare youth with resilience by teaching emergency preparedness skills and knowledge that will empower them to help their community.
- Bolster the volunteer force of Floyd County Emergency Management with skilled workers who have been trained in safety and emergency assistance.
- Supplement public safety recruiting in Rome and Floyd County by providing youth with access, knowledge and skills required for emergency support functions.
Program participants will:
- Build confidence, discipline, teamwork and social skills
- Gain first-hand knowledge of the duties, responsibilities and challenges of public safety
- Receive valuable classroom instruction and hands-on training
- Discover if there is a career for you in public safety
Requirements:
- Must be 14 years old
- Maintain a 2.0 GPA
- No criminal history
- No excessive discipline from school
Meetings are scheduled in advance and distributed to participants and parents. All meetings, unless otherwise noted, are from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and held at Floyd County Emergency Management, located at 407 East 12th Street, Rome, GA 30162.
The Exploring program is administered by Floyd County Emergency Management with guidance from the Northwest Ga Council BSA. Membership in Scouts is not a requirement for participation in Exploring, which is a Learning for Life organization. The Northwest Ga Council BSA and Learning for Life are both 501c3 non-profit organizations. Floyd County is located within the Etowah region of Boy Scouts of America.
