Public Works
The Public Works Department provides safe and efficient movement of people and goods within the county and is committed to maintaining a well kept and safe community. Public Works maintains roads, bridges, road signs, drainage and vegetation control in Floyd County. The department is prepared to respond, in conjunction with Public Safety Agencies, to rectify any situation that may be hazardous to Floyd County residents.
Repair and Maintenance
- Main Shop
- Repairs and maintains heavy equipment such as dozers, backhoes, large trucks, generators, tractors/mowers, and paving equipment.
- Preventive Maintenance (PM) Shop
- Repairs and maintains light equipment such as light trucks and automobiles, including servicing large trucks.
- Maintains the vehicles of the Police Department, Sheriff's Department, Prison, Health Department, Animal Control, Surveying, Water Department and various other department and office vehicles for the County, including Public Works vehicles.
- Tire Shop
- Repairs tires for all county vehicles
- Repairs and maintains chainsaws
- Sign Shop & Grounds Division
- Hundreds of different signs are made and installed along county roads and at county facilities through the Floyd County Sign Shop.
- Responsible for the striping of roads and county parking lots.
Warehouse
The Warehouse provides Materials Management, Fleet Management, Purchasing and Information Management for Public Works. Receiving, warehousing, distribution, assembly, and disposal of County materials, supplies, tools, and equipment is handled from the Warehouse.
Fleet Management maintains extensive paper records as well as electronic files and a computerized database.
Purchasing - Goods and services are procured for the Public Works Department at the lowest cost meeting requirements for quality, quantity, delivery and conformance to specifications.
