This project consists of additions to recreational trails and water trails to improve access and use of existing riverside trail system and waterways.

Tasks include:

  • Renovation of Brushy Branch Park
  • Two new soft launches on the Oostanaula River
  • Boat-in only campsites on the Etowah and Oostanaula Rivers
  • Signage at river access points
  • Feasibility study for construction of river-friendly recreational opportunities for paddlers in downtown Rome
  • Bikeshare program for Rome's riverfront trails system

The project will also establish the Oostanaula River Water Trail that will ultimately stretch from Resaca to Rome and complete portions of the Etowah River Water Trail in Floyd County.

Status Updates

11.17.2023 - Site has been identified and currently in conversation for acquisition. Construction in 2024.

3.2023 - Floyd County is evaluating sites for paddle-in campsite on the Etowah River.

4.14.2022 - In house planning has been underway for renovations to the Rome-Floyd ECO Center. Jones Pierce Architects is working on the design phase of the renovation and boat house design.
