At their Monday, April 6, 2026, special called meeting, the Floyd County Board of Commissioners approved expenses and a proposal to contract Quality Plus Services, in an amount not to exceed, $520,000 for the stabilization of the Historic Courthouse, pending final legal review. This is the first step in the process to address critical life-safety measures for the prevention of damage to surrounding properties and anyone using or working in those areas. Once stabilization is complete, further evaluation of the structure will continue.

As a reminder, while Fifth Avenue remains closed in front of the Floyd County Historic Courthouse, essential services are available across the street at 5 Government Plaza.

There are four windows open in the former Law Enforcement Center for the public to access the Tax Commissioner's Office, Tag Office and Tax Assessor's Office and the Sixth Avenue parking deck is free and open to the public for people who are visiting the tax offices or Judicial Center.

The Court has determined that a judicial emergency exists in Floyd County, Georgia in that a catastrophic fire occurred at the Historic County Courthouse during the afternoon of March 23, 2026, thereby limiting access to the Floyd County Courthouse and requiring assessment of any dangers posed by remnants of the fire.
