Call for Special Election - March 18, 2025
CALL FOR SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL UNEXPIRED TERM OF MEMBER OF THE BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
Notice is hereby given that, in accordance with O.C.G.A. 21-2-540 and O.C.G.A. 21-2-2(3), a special election shall be held in Floyd County to fill a vacancy in the office of Post 4 of the Floyd County Board of Commissioners. Said vacancy resulted from the death of the Honorable Larry Maxey and shall be for the remainder of the term which he would have filled being through and including December 31, 2026. The Special Election will be held on March 18, 2025.
- Qualifying for the special election shall be held at 18 East 12th Street, Rome, GA 30161 beginning at 8:00 a.m. on January 27, 2025, and ending at 5:00 p.m. on January 29, 2025. No primary election shall be held. Qualified candidates may choose to designate their party affiliation at the time of qualification and such designation shall appear with their name on the ballot.
- The qualifying fee shall be $216.00 pursuant to O.C.G.A. 21-2-131 and as set by resolution of the Floyd County Board of Commissioners by resolution dated December 10, 2024.
- All persons who are not registered to vote and who desire to register to vote in the special election may register through the close of business on February 18, 2025 or on the date prescribed by the Secretary of State.
- Early voting will be held at the Floyd County Elections office at 18 East 12th Street, Rome, GA 30161 during normal business hours. The dates of early voting will be February 24 through March 14, 2025. In addition, early voting will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2025, and March 18, 2025, at the same location between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; as well as Sunday, March 9, 2025 at the same location between the hours of 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Polls will be open from 7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day. Should a runoff be required, such runoff will be published in the legal organ with the date as prescribed by the Secretary of State.
