Recycling Transparency
Many people believe that recycling doesn't actually happen, especially when they see recycling bins emptied into trash trucks or worry that the recycling truck just dumps everything into a landfill. We want to assure you that, in Rome and Floyd County, we are committed to recycling your household items and keeping them out of the Walker Mountain Landfill.
In fact, we have a dedicated team of seven full-time staff members working on recycling in Floyd County, with additional support from the City of Rome’s curbside operations. We want you to be confident that your recyclable items are being processed and turned into new products.
To give you more transparency about where your recyclables go, here is a list of the vendors we work with. These companies purchase a variety of materials, including:
- Fiber products: Cardboard, office paper, mixed paper, and books
- Plastics: #1 PET plastic (like soda bottles), #2 natural and colored plastic jugs
- Metals: Aluminum, steel, and scrap metal
We also partner with other vendors who handle electronics and household hazardous waste (HHW).
Keep recycling, Rome! Your efforts are making a difference.
